Yesterday, I was off at a music festival that conveniently happened to be a 10 minute walk from my house (which was a godsend when it started pouring rain). There were over 160 bands playing all day, and into the night. While most of the bands playing were local Ontario talent, there were a few big performances by some more well known bands, such as The Arkells, Down With Webster, Lights, and The Johnstones. Unfortunately, I only had my camera for The Johnstones concert because I knew it was going to rain later, and didn't want it to get broken. With all of this G20 happenings in Toronto right now, it was nice to have something exciting going on right in St. Catharines.

And in case you haven't heard, I'm like a bird..I'm like a bird

Today, I went back to that spot by the lake that I went to yesterday. Pretty soon the people that live on that street are going to start throwing stuff at my car as I drive by haha. As I am a slightly shy person, who gets embarrassed easily, it was very annoying having to throw my tripod in my car and pretend to talk on my phone every time a car drove by. There is something so embarrassing about people seeing you take self-portraits. It was a beautiful day today, so I drove all over the countryside looking at farms and enjoying the scenery.. pretty much soaking up as much of the outdoors as I could because I work for the next two days.

Later, my mom cooked some steaks for dinner, which we ate outside. Ever since we got a 62" HD Television, we haven't had as many sit down dinners in the dining room, so tonight was nice ! Now, I am currently watching Plane, Trains, and Automobiles with my dad ! I forgot just how funny that movie is. Anyways, I hope that everyone is having a great week ! Today, I went driving all over to try and find a secluded, yet lovely, road that I could take these photos on ! I had an image in my head for how I wanted them to look so I drove out to Lake Ontario (which pretty much surrounds my entire town) and drove along the shore until I found a good spot ! The shoes that I am wearing are one of the pairs that I received in the mail yesterday (remember? they're the ones that I got for winning that contest!) and the beret was a gift from Ian, when he went to France last summer ! I feel like I have been dressing so differently lately, so I thought i'd bust out one of my romantic little outfits for today !

Meet Me Halfway

Since me and Ian have a 2 hour distance between us, we only get to see each other every week or so. This week, we decided that we would meet half way, in Toronto ! I parked my car at a subway station on the outskirts of the city, and took the subway downtown. We met at Queen St. West, and walked around for a while looking for a restaurant. After searching for a while, we asked a guy who worked at a comic book store where a good place to eat was. He suggested a place called Johnny Bananas, and after hiking up the street quite a ways, we discovered that it had gone out of business >.< ! My feet were very sore at that point, so we just picked a random restaurant and went there ! It turns out that we picked a good one ! It was called the BQM Diner. Anyways, the food was very inexpensive (mine and Ian's bill combined was only $19!), yet delicious ! I got a grilled cheese sandwich and a green salad. It was fantastic ! It was just a little restaurant with one waitress and one cook, and all of the burgers were made of organic ground beef ! We couldn't stay out late, unfortunately, because Ian has to wake up very early every day for work (5:30 am) and I have an emergency dentist appointment at 8:30 to replace a filling that fell out. Anyways, that was my night ! I hope you all enjoyed your as well !

Song of the day

"Linger on, your pale blue eyes."

Well, my friends, some of you said that you missed the "Song of the day" posts that I did, so I decided to bring them back ! I was listening to this song, and thought to myself, "This is just too beautiful of a song to not blog about.." !

Really Old School Chic

I got this shirt the day that I went to see She & Him with Gabby, and I have worn it a million times since last week. It is from H&M's new Black Book collection, which is made up of shirts from unknown designers and artists. As you guys have figured out by now, I'm not really into graphic tees, but this shirt just drew me in, so I had to buy it !

Happy Birthday, Gran !

Today was my Gran's 80th birthday party, and the whole extended family gathered for the event ! She had no idea that my cousin Michael (who lives farther away, and is in the US army so we don't him often) was going to be here today, so she was very pleasantly surprised by that ! We took a lot of photos, and everyone drank lots of wine, which is a typical Whipps family gathering. My dad has 4 sisters, so I have a fairly large family (as you can see it the second last photo) and it is always nice to see them all at once !

She & Him

Well, my friends, I apologize for the lack of posts lately ! I've actually been busy...for once hahaha. I have been working a decent amount of hours ("decent" meaning more than nothing). Anyways, on Wednesday me and Gabby went to see She & Him play at the Sound Academy, in Toronto ! The show was incredible, and nothing like I had expected. I had imagined that we would arrive at the venue to find a sea of hipsters and Zooey clones, but was surprised to see a mixture of young and old, as well as every genre of young people on the planet. As soon as we got there (which was an hour and a half before the doors opened), there were already about 60 people lined up, waiting to get in. The most depressing part of the evening was when the security guards informed everyone that the band had requested no photography during the show, so they made us leave all of our cameras at the coat check. As sad as I was at the time, though, I know now that I will never forget the details of that show for as long as I live. The opening band consisted of two gorgeous blonde sisters, named Abigail and Lily Chapin, and accurately called the duo The Chapin Sisters. Their soft folk-music complimented She & Him's sound nicely, but didn't fit in with the dark, club-like venue. I felt like the entire concert should have taken place outside..but if that had been the case, then we would have all got drenched because it rained that night. Zooey's first appearance of the evening was very unexpected, as she did the back-up vocals for The Chapin Sisters. As soon as she started walking on stage, I lost all control and started screaming and attempting to grab at Gabby, but just ended up pawing at the air like an idiot. I think I even cried a little bit.. I am a loser, I know. She & Him opened with the song "Black Hole", and throughout the night, Zooey switched from keyboard to tambourine, while M. Ward stayed pretty quiet at the side of the stage. His voice was every bit as charming live, as it is in their recordings. The whole night was magical, and made you feel like you had been transported to the 60s (well, from what I imagine). In addition to about 20 of their own songs, they also did covers of Joni Mitchell, Ricky Nelson, and a few others ! All in all, it was incredible..and probably the best concert that I have seen, to date.

Rainy Day Blues

Well, it has been raining in Ontario like mad for the last few days so I have not been wearing frilly summer dresses ! This is my mom's umbrella, but I love it so I always steal it ! You can't see the colours very well in these photos, but it is the most beautiful and vibrant peacock feather design. My bangs have reached an awkward length, which is why I have them pulled out of my face. This was also my first attempt at a fish-tail side braid, and I think it turned out pretty well !
